About us

The Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1929 on the premises of the Bratislava branch of the Radiojournal radio company, as the first professional symphony orchestra in Slovakia. Its first chief conductor was the Czech František Dyk. The beginnings of the orchestra's activities are also associated with the extraordinary activity of the then head of radio music broadcasting, Alexander Moyzes, who was responsible for its gradual improvement and expansion. In the following years, the post of chief conductors was taken over by Kornel Schimpl, František Babušek, Krešimir Baranović, Ľudovít Rajter, Richard Týnský, Ladislav Slovák, Václav Jiráček, Bystrík Režucha, Otakar Trhlík, Ondrej Lenárd, Róbert Stankovský, Charles Olivieri-Munroe, Oliver Dohnányi, Mario Košik, Peter Valentovič and again Ondrej Lenárd. Since 2020, the permanent conductor of the orchestra has been Konstantin Ilievsky.
